Geocache Description:

On the Look Off loop of the Salmon River trail in Lake Echo.

Parking is available at the end of River road but do not block the gate to the camp, the road is in very rough shape but in good weather you can get down with a car if you go slow and pick your route, (I did it in a Mazda3). The trail itself is fairly well marked and easy to follow, the only real trouble is getting started. Due to a slight rearrangement of the forest by hurricane Juan, the traditional entry which runs along the lake in front of camp Victoria is now like making your way through the world’s biggest game of pickup sticks, though it is very impressive and you should go and take a look. Instead a trail has been cut starting at the right edge of the camp main building, the trail is well used by hikers and fishermen so the camp (which is used by scouts and other groups) is used to seeing lots of people pass through. Once crossing the river you can go either left or right and each way will get you to the cache as the trail loops back on itself. The trail also joins the river trail which heads up the river to another cache placed by us and onto another more challenging one on Porcupine Lake. The cache is located on one of several granite look offs which are home to small stands of Jack Pines, a rarity on mainland Nova Scotia.
