Geocache Description:

What a great place for a walk... or a cache! A beautiful, tree-lined trail that's fast becoming a favorite of Riley the Snow Dog and other local dogs and horses. It's brand new, is wide, flat, and wheel-chair accessible with adjacent parking. Park your car, pack a snack and enjoy the trail into town. After you find the cache, that is.

Riley's original spot turned out to be too easy to find. The cache mysteriously disappeared within 2 weeks of placement. A new and improved cache has found a home in a bit more challenging location off the main trail. The Larry Scott Memorial Trail is a small portion of the Olympic Discovery Trail that runs through Port Townsend. This new section, a beautiful tree-lined, wide, flat route, the Cape George Trailhead, extends the LSMT to a total of 3.6 miles. Eventually, it will join the ODT and provide a nonstop trail system between Port Townsend and Port Angeles. The new trailhead has a large parking lot so that cyclers, pedestrians and equestrians can leave their autos behind and follow the trail to its end at the beach near Boat Haven. Most of the route is paved and wheelchair-accessible, but there is a ½-mile portion just northeast of the trailhead that is a narrow dirt path. Improvements to this section should be completed by 2007. The cache is hidden along the newest section of trail off the trailhead and is easily navigable, and is approximately 1/2 mile from the parking lot. Lots of goodies in the cache; look for a white plastic container wrapped inside a black plastic bag. The new trail section is already very popular with local equestrians and cyclists even though it hasn't officially opened. Come, enjoy the peaceful beauty before word gets out. Then reward yourself when you reach the Boat Haven: have lunch at the Blue Moose Cafe or check out Port Townsend Brewery for a microbrew.
