Geocache Description:

This cache is situated on a public footpath starting from Heaves farm.

Sizergh Castle and Gardens are situated close to Kendal with the Strickland family having lived here since 1239 although it is now in the custody of the National Trust since 1950, it still remains the home of the Strickland family.

The house is next to a small lake amongst parkland and is noted for being one of the best fortified houses in Cumbria.

Within the house you will find collection of contemporary oak furniture, portraits, silver, china, Jacobean relics, Tudor panelling and 17th Century Flemish Tapestry.

The main feature is the oldest part of the house is the14th Century Pele Tower almost sixty [60] feet high which was used for protection against the Scots during their raids on England. In the tower there is some fine Elizabethan carved wooden chimney-pieces. Around 1450 the adjoining Great Hall was built and two [2] long wings were added during the Elizabethan period.
