Geocache Description:

This cache was hidden as part of the One Degree of Separation Geocaching Project. This is a seed cache, meaning you are meant to take one of the ready made micro caches inside of it and hide it yourself. No trading is required. Just come take a cache and hide it using the proper title format and utilizing the seed cache template that you will find at the project website. There is no obligation to participate, just sign the log if that's as far as you want to go....

This project was launched to unite the entire geocaching continuum together at one point using the "Small World Theory" as it pertains to geocaching.

If even half of the nearly 13,000 caches originally released on 5/26/2006 get placed as a geocache, no geocacher in the entire world (with even 1 find) should be able to go much beyond 3 degrees of separation from every other geocacher in the world, but the REAL object of this project is to bring that number down to 1 degree for as many geocachers as possible.

One Degree of Separation is a project that has been taking shape and GROWING for nearly 3 years. It's a variation of the "Small World" concept that was proposed in the early 20th century. Many people are familiar with the "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game, but few know just how far back the idea goes.

For more information on this project and the Small World Theory go to: ODS Web Site

To visually see how the project grows over time check the ODS: PRIME! geocaching profile stats at: ODS PRIME!

Please email Email ODS PRIME! when you plant your seed, so he can add your cache to the ever growing network of caches placed in this project.

.....................................................................

Many other goals will be posted as the project grows, but here are a few.

1. To have an active ODS cache hidden on ALL 7 continents.

2. To have an ODS cache hidden in all 50 states.

3. To have an ODS cache hidden in a number of foreign countries, by milestone,10 countries at a time. First milestone 10 then 20 and so on.

4. To have an ODS cache hidden in every county in Texas.

More goals will be posted on the ODS Web Site

Thank you for participating in what is sure to be a noteworthy point in geocaching history.

The following information should be used as the short description for the seed caches taken from this seed pod:

This cache was hidden as part of the One Degree of Separation Geocaching Project. This is a seed that came from: GCT6DB ODS Snoogans 16 - Legend of Hell's Gate

The following naming format should be used for the seed caches taken from this seed pod:

The seed caches should be named "ODS-Roland_oso" and then add something additional pertaining to the specific cache, like I added "Legend of Hell's Gate"

Now, on to the Cache!

This seed pod was obtained at: GCTVHQ "One Degree of Separation"

Possum Kingdom's Hell's Gate separates Devil's Island from the mainland and was once the area of convergence for Jowell Creek and the Brazos River. When the dam was constructed to form Possum Kingdom Lake, Devil's Island was formed and the site is now a nationally famous natural landmark.

Legend has it that a fur trapper who had cheated a local tribe of Indians was chased to the high bluff where he said he would rather jump trough the gates of hell before giving up his furs and facing the wrath of the Indians.

I'm on the fence in the great micro-spew debate. I like micros as long as there is a neat spot to visit, a devious camo job or at least an interesting story behind the hide. I abhor micros that seem to be just placed into random spots with no significance. I placed this cache to curtail thoughtless micro placement.

There were 51 micros inside of my container when I grabbed it from the ODS event at GW4. I kept one to hide myself GCT6DA "ODS-Roland_oso - Nut too far from the Tree" I hope this will provide what I consider a well placed micro. I had sworn not to place any more micros around a year ago, and only plan to break that resolution for this project.

If you are going to find this cache, you are going to have to work to get to this one, hence the 5 terrain rating. Easiest access is by boat, but can be reached if you are a cliff diver and a great swimmer, although I would not recommend that option.

The cache container is a 1 Gallon Rubbermaid Jar, cammoed to blend in with the local flora and tethered into place. Until some of the micros are taken there is no room for trade items. Please make sure to place the cache in an upright position when replacing the it to help ensure that the contents do not get wet.

Make sure to look for “Gilligan’s Revenge” GCPTMT while on the island. I would hate for you to have to dive off the cliffs and swim over to the island more than necessary.

Once again please strive for excellence when hiding one of the seed micros taken from this cache.
