Geocache Description:

Another little bushwack.

According to the early history of the area, the little community of Chambersburg, located on the northern edge of the Lick Creek Settlement area, was a station on the underground railroad. It apparently served as the first stop north of the Ohio River. The Quakers who settled Orange County were strongly antislavery and were instrumental in the underground railroad effort. An old log cabin near Chambersburg had a trap door near the fireplace which opened up to reveal a 8'x6' pit. A rug was used to cover the trap door and apparently the pit was used to hide fugitive slaves.
