Tri-Go Gormandize Redux Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Kordite: It's been nearly a month after the event so everyone should have had ample opportunity to log their visits. There are still plenty of geocoins still at the cache, so to speak, so people should probably check their inventories and claim the coins that they actually have in their posessions.

See you next year.

Geocache Description:

In ancient times, the Vernal Equinox, the date of equal day and night and the first day of Spring, was celebrated as the official beginning of the New Year. To the Indians, this was the eight day feast of Huli, the last day of which was celebrated by sending people on fruitless errands. In Scotland this hopeless search was known as "hunting the gowk". Around here, it's the Snipe hunt.

It should, therefore, be obvious why it has been decreed that April Fools Day is Tri-Go's "official" holiday.

And to celebrate that holiday, we gather annually to consume mass quantities of food.

Originally, this particular iteration will again be at Hoss's in Penn Hills but less than two weeks before the event I got a call that the restaurant was going to be closing permanently. I have therefore scramblesd to find an alternate location that can handle us:

Evergreen Chinese Restaurant
3500 William Penn Hwy, Pittsburgh, PA 15235-5414
N40 25.809 W79 48.381
Saturday April 1st, 6:00pm

Parking may be limited. You can find more space next door at the Home Depot's lot. Because of the large group, a 15% gratuity will be added to the check so a buffet, a soft drink will run a touch under $12 total.

This year will also feature several games and activities.

  • Geocoin Logging and Trading : A master sign-in sheet will be kept for the logging of geocoins. There will be a URL available at the event so that afterwards you can check and make sure you have logged ALL of the coins that were there. Also, we want to actually have the coins there (because if all you need is the number, why bother having the coin at all). At some point, all the coins will be set upon a table and photographed all together as proof of their presence. It should be fairly impressive (for those impressed by such things).
  • How Much Swag In the Cache : How many McToys, golf tees, batteries and melted crayons are stuffed in this Lock & Lock container? Is there anything GOOD in all that junk? Can you see them all? Can you count them all? Take a guess - the closest guess wins the cache container plus all the items contained therin!
  • What's in This Ammo Box? : Shake it, tap it, whack it. Just don't open it. Then identify what's inside.

After the "official" activities, a smaller group is expected to coalesce just up the street at:

John Harvard's Brew House
3466 William Penn Hwy, Pittsburgh, PA 15235
N40 25.772 W79 48.602

Please RSVP by logging a note so that we may alert the establishment's staff to our impending presence. Also let us know if you plan on joining people at John Harvard's afterwards.
