Countdown to Daytona 2006 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

NascarCoke: Well, the NASCAR season is over. Jimmie Johnson is the Nextel Cup Champion and I've got to wait almost 3 months until the 2007 Daytona 500. The trees are bare of their leaves and there are alot more Canadian Geese flying overhead these days. We've had a few nights of frost and have had a few fires to take the evening chill away. So...I guess it's time to archive this cache and thank all of you who sought and found it. Watch to see what the spring and 2007 brings!

And to the person who found it necessary to take a crap in the cache...I hope the next time you do that to someone else's cache a snake bites you in the ass!!!

Geocache Description:

Parking is available at: N 41 58.785 - W 088 15.214

I have been going through Nascar withdrawal since the final lap at Homestead last November. With the 2006 Daytona 500 only 17 days away, I thought it would be neat to place a cache filled with Nascar goodies for my fellow geocachers who are as crazy about Nascar as I am. The FTF will have his/her choice of some pretty cool stuff. If you take something and are going to leave something, please try to make your item auto-racing themed.

This hunt will take you through the winding prairie trails of the Tri-County Forest Preserve. Stop for a moment on the bridge and watch the beaver dam for activity. You'll see many Canadian Geese flying overhead and you just may spot a deer in your travels.

As this is a public park, please beware of any muggles you may encounter along the way so as not to give away the cache's location.

This Cache was approved for placement by the DuPage County Forest Preserve. Their process is fairly simple for placing a cache. I downloaded an application from the Internet, filled it out and dropped it off at the Forest Preserve I wanted to place my cache in, although I'm sure you can fax it also. I was contacted by a Park Ranger who scheduled a day and time to meet me at the cache site. She approved my cache container (it must be clear), checked my coordinates, put a permit sticker on the cache and even helped me hide it. All in all I thought it was pretty easy to ger approval. They are VERY interested in working with other geocachers so don't hesitate to contact them. I'll be placing another cache in the same Forest Preserve this Spring at the Park Rangers request.
