The windmill is located at N51.58.176 E000.27.138 and the cache is located approx five minutes walk from here on a public footpath opposite a thatched cottage called 'Thatches'. Once you have located the cache turn round and you can see the windmill across the field.
The earliest form of windmill was the post mill. The entire body of the mill pivots round a massive centre post to ensure the sails always face in to the wind. The brick building which it sits on is called a round house.
This mill is open to the public on the afternoon of the third Sunday of each month from April to September from 2pm to 5pm as well as the National Mill Weekends in May of each year.
Finchingfield is a pretty Essex village with a couple of tea rooms and pubs as well as a duck pond - don't forget to bring some bread to feed them with.
We suggest that you park at the roadside parking around the village, walk up to the Windmill and then carry on walking along the road to the public footpath opposite the 'Thatches' cottage.
