Pigeons Roost (Canterbury) Traditional Cache
Zero Gravitas: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Tucked away in a pleasant camp site/rest area. Easily accessible by all. You can almost drive right to the cache itself! Very popular area - Beware of Muggles - Stealth is required : )
The area is a lovely family-type camping area in North Canterbury, complete with toilets (but no showers.)
There is plenty of things for the kids to do here for a short "leg stretch" or camping stay.
It is very near State Highway 7, but the surrounding trees give plenty of protection from the traffic noise, and wind.
The Hurunui River is a short walk from the site, and the historic Hurunui Hotel approx 5 minutes drive away.
We stayed here for several nights, and each morning were woken to the sounds of the pigeons in the trees "cooing" - hence the name.
PLEASE NOTE: TOILETS ARE LOCKED OFF & INACCESSIBLE OVER THE WINTER MONTHS
The cache is a 1-litre camo painted sistema container, which is almost invisible from 5 metres.
GPS accuracy was 5 metres when placed, and averaged at 180 readings.
It is above ground level.
