General Disarray: Greetings from Geocaching.com

I noticed that this cache has been temporarily disabled for a period of time well in excess of the period of ‘a few weeks’ as contemplated by the cache guidelines published on Geocaching.com. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can't do so forever. Please either repair/replace this cache, or archive it so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
General Disarray

Geocache Description:

Doe Doe Park was the fun place to go in Lawton for many years.

Opening in 1945, Doe Doe offered a large swimming pool, a wooden skating rink, train rides, kiddie rides, a zoo, and concessions. The swimming fee was a quarter plus a dime to rent a basket to store your clothes. You were issued a large safety pin with your basket number. You had to swim across the middle of the pool for the life guard before you were allowed to enter the deep water or go off the diving boards on the tower or the high dive. The swimmers provided entertainment for the customers in the café with its large picture window. The speakers blasted rock and roll music to the delight of the teenagers who would dance on the grassy areas.

The park was the subject of civil rights demonstrations in the 60’s and 70’s due to its “whites-only” stance. Eventually the park was open to all people but closed in 1985. It sat dormant until 1999 when most of the structures were dismantled, the pool was filled in and the grounds were leveled. The pavilion and picnic area has been restored by a religious ministry and renamed “The Bridge”. The park is now being used for Christian music concerts, conferences, family reunions, picnics and other outdoor activities for the whole community. It has also been selected as the future site for a city spray pool.

You will be searching for a magnetic keyholder under the bridge in the park.
