"ESCAPE From The Jungle" - A true story by Javamama and Spa Susi.
The day started out just like any other day. Spa Susi and Javamama had quick breakfast of porridge and dumplings and then headed off on a geocaching advenure. Today's mission was to pay a maintenance visit to Yamashita's Gold and then hike from there to Bukit Timah, trying to find a spot for Spa Susi's latest cache creation along the way.
The walk to Yamashita was almost becoming routine for our two jungle adventurers. They got to the cache in record time and the trek back out seemed even easier; that was until Javamama spotted a faint, side path leading into the jungle. "Hey, let's take this" she called out to Spa Susi. Spa Susi frowned. She had been on enough of these adventures with Javamama to know that staying on the beaten path was always the best idea. "Come on", cajoled Javamama. "It's a short cut to Bukit Timah. We'll turn around if it gets too tough. How bad could it be?" Spa Susi sighed and gamely followed Javamama on yet another insane adventure.
The jungle got thicker and thicker. The path narrowed until it finally reached some impenetrable deadfalls. Spa Susi suggested turning back, but Javamama insisted on bashing her away around. "I'm sure this is still a trail" she repeated over and over, but Spa Susi could detect the confidence in her voice waning as went deeper into the thick jungle.
After 30 minutes of brush bashing, our adventurers bashed their way through a thick tangle of thorns. On the other side, they were relieved to find a clear footpath. A couple minutes later, they came to a trail intersection marked with army checkpoint cards. They followed the larger trail down a hill, waded through a stream and were thrilled to spot a familiar hut ahead. The main trail at last!
Crawling out of the jungle, battered and bloody, drenched in sweat, doing their ESCAPE from the jungle dance, our adventurers must have been a frightening sight. One approaching hiker turned around and ran the other way. Javamama and Spa Susi didn't care. They were just relieved to ESCAPE from the jungle.
Now back on familiar trails, Javamama and Spa Susi proceeded briskly towards Bukit Timah. Along the way they came upon an Indian family asking for directions. The family had planned to do a short walk, but had gotten hopelessly lost. They had been wandering up and down the trail three times looking for a way out. Exhausted and out of water, they just wanted the shortest way out to a road where they could get a taxi. Javamama and Spa Susi offered to lead them to Rifle Range Road where they could call a taxi. Twenty minutes later, the relieved family were climbing into their cab. "Thank you, thank you" said the father. "Without you, we may have never gotten out." As a token of thanks for assisting with the family's ESCAPE from the jungle, the man handed Spa Susi a bottle. Then he hopped in the taxi and sped off.
"Hummm" said Spa Susi, "I wonder what this is?". She pulled out the cork and smoke started pouring from the bottle. In seconds a genie had materialized. "Thank you, thank you, thank you" said the genie. "I'm so happy to ESCAPE from the bottle that I'll grant you three wishes." The beaming smile on Spa Susi's face would have lit the darkest night. She had long dreamed of this moment and was well prepared with her wish: $33 million US dollars, tax-free, deposited in a secure account in her name.
Unfortunately for the duo, Javamama was now convinced that she was asleep and dreaming. She knew that at any minute she would awaken to the sound of her alarm telling her it was Monday morning and time to go back to work. Before Spa Susi could open her mouth, Javamama laughed and blurted out: "I wish I didn't have to walk to the end of the trail", "I wish I had a cold Tiger Beer in my hand". Then, remembering that their mission was to find a spot for Spa Susi's cache, she finished off with "and I wish we could find the perfect spot to place our cache".
Poof!!! Instantly the genie was gone and Javamama and Spa Susi found themselves standing at the end of the trail. Javamama was so stunned that she dropped the cold Tiger Beer that had magically appeared in her hand. Spa Susi's shock quickly wore off and she started pummelling Javamama with her fists. "How could you waste our three wishes?" she screamed. "Ouch, ouch, ouch!" Javamama cried out, "That hurts, you mean I'm not dreaming???? AND I spilled my beer, wahhhh!"
Not being the kind to cry for long over spilt beer and a lost chance at $33 million, Javamama and Spa Susi quickly took stock of their situation. "We made a close ESCAPE from the jungle, that was good" Javamama reminded Spa Susi. "Yeah, and we helped that family ESCAPE from the jungle. That was good too" remarked Spa Susi. "Hey!" exclaimed Javamama as she scanned the jungle, "Look over there! It's the perfect spot to hide your cache!".
So there you have it. Another day in the life of Javamama and Spa Susi. Another cache in the jungle for you to go find. This one is just at the edge of the jungle. It isn't too far away from the road so you don't have to walk too far to find it. On the other hand, if you're in the mood for a walk, the trail in both directions is very nice. The final terrain is a bit tricky so we don't suggest coming in your office clothes. Please handle the cache container carefully and put it back as you found it. Please, no descriptions of what it looks like in your logs. You want people who come after you to be surprised, rightt?
