Note that the cache is not at the posted coordinates which
instead indicate a good place to park.
The clues for the cache location can be found by exploring some
of the unusual memorials in this Cemetery.
Note – the final cache location is outside the Cemetery.
The cemetery has large numbers of unusual and interesting
memorials. It is also part of an ecological management scheme being
a rare meadow habitat. In the nearby Joseph Hood Memorial
Recreation Ground, there is protected woodland, a children's play
area and plenty of open space.
The final location is accessible 24/7 but the clues are only
accessible between 8am and 4pm in winter with progressivly longer
opening until and 8am to 7pm in high summer. Check the Gallery for
more details. On Sundays and public holidays, the cemetery does not
open until 10am.
Searchers for this cache agree to abide by the byelaws of the
Cemetery – no walking on graves, and no photography of gravestones
unless a relative of the deceased, or you have the permission of
the London Borough of Wandsworth who are responsible for the
Cemetery. Children must be kept under control and dogs must be kept
on a lead. Please observe the speed limits, direction signs and
parking restrictions.
This is a busy active cemetery – if burials are taking place
then take care not to disturb them or obstruct the mourners.
The whole area is covered in footpaths and is generally level
ground, but parts can get a bit soft under foot following wet
weather and it will be necessary to leave some of the paths for a
short distance to get some of the clues. Gathering the clues and
finding the final cache should take about an hour.
Plenty of Parking at the posted coordinates, or on access ways
to there from the main gate.
This cache is also easily accessible by public transport – Buses
163, 293 and 413 run near to the main gate and connect to Morden,
Raynes Park, Wimbledon, Sutton and Epsom. The Cemetery is
accessible by walking across the recreation ground from Motspur
Park Station.

The missing digits can be found from memorials in the cemetery
–
1 – N 51 23.478 W 000 13.812 Here is a large war
memorial – The date Private Barker died is U.V.WXYZ.
(W+X+Y+Z) – (U+(Vx10)) = H
Also U = F
2 – N 51 23.538 W 000 13.740 The number of
letters in the final word of the Latin inscription =
J
3 – N 51 23.542 W 000 13.760 Here is a row of
Commonwealth War Graves – you will find dozens of these scattered
around the whole of this cemetery.
The final figure in the service number of the rightmost grave
in this row = C
The final figure in the service number of the leftmost grave
= D
4 – N 51 23.567 W 000 13.762 The number of letters in the
first word of the Latin inscription = G
5 - N 51 23.565 W 000 13.877 – A monument to those that
have made a sacrifice in a completely different type of struggle –
The number of letters in the final word in the inscription =
I
6 – N 51 23.519 W 000 13.915 – There are several war
graves of this nationality in this part of the cemetery, and most
are memorials to two warriors. Which year did the corporal die?
The last digit = B
7 - N 51 23.487 W 000 13.927 – Three war graves you would
not expect to find here. Facing them, the regiment number of the
rightmost one = E and the regiment number of the one standing in
front = A
Now you should have all the numbers – you will need to leave the
cemetery, but you will not need to leave the path. Take care not to
be spotted by muggles – the area can get busy on sunny days. Please
make sure the cache is well hidden back in its original place. As
the hide gets cut well back every summer, make sure the box is
placed as far from the path as you can reach without leaving the
path.
The cache itself is a locking plastic container.
