Located on Iowa Hill Road east of Colfax.
The road to Iowa Hill, originally Rice’s Grade, became a toll road in 1854 and connected gold rich Iowa Hill with the town of Colfax (Illinoistown). Remnants of Rice’s Grade are still visible today though most of it has been obliterated by rockslides and the construction of today’s Iowa Hill Road. If you would like to know more about Rice’s Grade, obtain “The Road to Iowa Hill” 1999, by Sharon Balmain.
In 1851, Rice operated a ferry that crossed the North Fork American River. The ferry was replaced by a covered bridge in 1860. A suspension bridge was built in 1928 and is a valuable landmark today.
The cache is a micro with only room for the logbook and a 1971 Ike, donated by hikingirl, for the FTF. This is muggles central on weekends, holidays and during the summer. Stealth is required at all times!
Parking is available at N 39 05.016 W 120 55.428 Other caches in the area are: Pennyweight, Pin Ball, Windy Point, Welcome to Iowa Hill, The Road to Iowa Hill - Adge Crossing and The Road to Iowa Hill – Dinner Tree.

Be on the lookout for the dreaded slithering rattle tail and the ever-present poison oak
