Uprooted – The Continuance Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

ohjoy!: The cache was missing. In addition, there is a true letterbox just a few feet away which was being signed by cachers. I decided a new cache in a slightly different location would be wise.

Geocache Description:

Important: This cache IS NOT IN A STUMP – please enjoy rather than destroy them. The cache name tells all. Stay on the main trail until the last 5 feet. Then take one or two steps to a small piece of bark next to a log very close to an uprooted tree.

This new cache is the result of taking a walk in the park and discovering that the original Uprooted cache was no longer easily accessible due to fallen trees and limbs resulting from the recent windstorm. I crawled and wriggled underneath to retrieve it. I re-hid it near a different root on a different trail. It is far enough away from the original spot that I decided to archive the old one and give South Sound cachers a new cache to find. I picked it up “as is” and simply placed it elsewhere. It is still an ammo can with the original logbook and contents – a continuance (the ammo can disappeared the summer of 2009, so the container is now a large lock and lock)

Finding it: As you approach the cache site, you will see the roots of an uprooted tree on the west side of the trail. Do not go to those roots! The cache is only 5' off the main trail, next to a log, under a piece of bark. Please limit your steps off the trail.

The original cache commemorated the “uprooting” efforts of a group of stalwart geocachers who worked together to celebrate Olympia’s 2004 CITO event in Priest Point Park. These folk tore out an enormous pile of the invasive English Ivy that is overtaking parts of that park. The original cache was the product of joint efforts by all of those participants who assisted with contents and coordinates.
