Harke Park Traditional Cache
travel8r: Unfortunately, the ice storm has been very bad to this park. The cache site will be non-existent by the time the parks department gets done with it. I have no choice but to remove this cache and wait for the big clean up to take place to see if there are any places left standing where I can put a new cache here.

This cache has been placed in Lebanon's "Harke Family Memorial Park". From I-44, take Exit 129. Go south on Jefferson Avenue, past the airport, for approximately 1.9 miles. Turn right on Fremont and travel about .4 miles to National. Turn left on National and the park will be visible just a short distance down the road.
The park is one of the newer parks in the city. It came about through a donation of land made by developers who put in the subdivision located just past the current park. At the time, there was no road going out to the property, so a deal was made that if the city built the road, the city would get 20 acres for a park. The road was built, but the land for the park remained undeveloped for several years. Then Mr. Harke, a retired baker (that's right, not a banker, but a bakery owner) from the Chicago area, donated $150,000 to the city to complete the park. There is a gazebo, bathrooms, a soccer field, picnic tables, a fenced playground, and a 1 mile paved walking path. The walking path can be followed to the cache up until about the last 90 feet or so. There are thorns in the area, but you should NOT have to go into them to get the cache!
Original cache contents include a first to find prize of a floating keychain/storage/flashlight multi-tool. Also, a black and orange hotwheels jeep, zodiac grow-sponges, a pin-on compass.
