Geocache Description:


Ijam’s Nature Center is the crown jewel of South Knoxville. This center, combined with Forks of the River WMA, has miles of trails passing through outstanding scenery. Don’t forget to visit the Visitors’ Center at the original home place of the Ijams Family. The Center depends on memberships to provide the exceptional programs and the facilities it has. Consider joining either as an individual or a family. Ijams has great exhibits, information, and maps of the area available. They also offer pre-school thru adult sessions on nature and environmental topics. These are free to members and available to non-members for a small fee. There are six geocaches now in these two areas of Ijams. Make a day of it. Picnic tables, benches and a grassy meadow complete with a kid- sized cabin near the Visitor’s Center make Ijams an ideal daytime family destination. The trailhead for this cache starts at the parking area for our other cache, “Quarried”. This is a loop trail of slightly less than a mile. A nearby kiosk has a map of the trails. It is a fairly steep trail and slippery when wet. The cache is located slightly off the trail, about half way through the loop. Complete the loop to enjoy more views. There are outstanding attractions in either direction. The cache is a cammoed ammo can containing trade items. There is a prize for FTF. Trash bags are in the container. CITO.
