Geocache Description:

We can’t have a park without at least one cache now, can we?

Please take notice that this cache is located in park within a residential neighborhood and near a county school where it posted NO TRESSPASSING so abide by their rules and respect their homes no matter how tempting it may seem to take a shortcut.

First I need to explain that the name of this cache can be deceiving but you’ll understand with a little explanation. In the early 1990’s a friend of mine asked me to help out at a soccer meeting at this park. Little did I know a friend of mine had ‘volunteered’ me to coach my son’s youth soccer team as I had coached his and my daughter’s softball team for years. It was pretty tricky of him but I have to say it lead to some very fun years and some of the best friends, parents and players alike, that I ever had (thanks Mark!). I learned the game along with the kids and we went undefeated that first year and won many trophies. My son is graduating from high school this year so I decided to put a cache in to mark that historic moment, at least in our lives. This used to be the home fields for Manatee East Soccer which grew into the Braden River Soccer Club.

Now to the name of the cache. The players decided that year to name the team “The Scorpions and my son, Mitch, was a defensive player that no one could get past and the team coined the nickname “The Wall” for him. Thus, the name of the cache, Scorpion’s Wall.

This micro may seem simple at first, but the trick here is to locate WHERE to park to find this cache. I will assure you that the park has public parking available so DO NOT park off the road in some neighborhood and trudge thru someone’s yard. Also, there is a school nearby but there is no true access to the park from the school and the land around the school is clearly marked NO TRESSPASSING so please abide by this. The park is even listed on the county website but their listed location isn’t even correct to gain access here. Keep in mind, there IS public parking here with a “real” entrance.

This is a little park with a nice large play area for the kids, soccer fields, public washrooms and a water fountain, covered picnic areas, grilling areas, a baseball field, and it appears they are in process of rebuilding an fitness area. You can even bring your pets but keep them on a leash. This is open from 6am to 11pm so if you plan on doing some night caching, do it before 11pm.

This is a micro. There is only a log book so be sure to bring your own pen. If you come during a school day or when some activities are occurring you will need to bring your stealthiest of hats. Please replace as you found it and watch out for muggles of all sizes.
