This location is between Platt Bridge and Golborne
Morris Dancing has been a tradition in this area since the 1800’s.
On the last day of June at 11am they perform their dance, they then move on to surrounding areas to dance again.
It is said that if they do not dance on the land for 21 yrs then the land will be lost.

The coal mine that was there took its name from the proximity to the Maypole ground. In the year 1908 there was a tragedy at the local mine and some 76 men lost their lives. The mine chimney stood for many years and could be seen for miles, but sadly that was raised to the ground at the end of February 2006.

The Morris dancers ground was restored by grants and public donations and was completed in June 2003.
