Geocache Description:

The River Ems forms a natural boundary between Hampshire and West Sussex in this area. This cache trail incorporates a part of the Sussex Border Path, which parallels the course of the river, and crosses from one county to another. This patch of countryside is also a favourite playground for my two Border Collies.

A pleasant stroll of about 1.8 miles designed to introduce people to some parts of the Emsworth area that they may not have seen before. Just for a change at an Emsworth cache, there are no boats to be seen!

The walk is on basically flat paths with only one large field to cross. Surfaces include gravel, tarmac and grass and should not become too muddy even in very wet weather.
It is pushchair friendly except for a few “kissing gates” and a stile which a pushchair would have to be lifted over.

I suggest that you start from the on-street parking area which is available at
N50 50.858 000 55.933W or nearby residential roads. Please take care that you do not obstruct any gateways etc.

PLEASE NOTE
The intermediate container was moved on 30/3/08 due to Muggle action. Cache page printouts prior to that date will give an incorrect location and result in a DNF.

Walk to N50 50.920 000 56.038W and find the contact phone number for Frances Jannaway of the Brook Meadow and Conservation Group.
Write it down as A B C D E F G H J K L

Now go to N50 51.075 000 56.142W and find a yellow sign with a reference number on it. Write down the central part of the number as M N O P Q R (ignore the first part of PO57SU and the last letter).

You now need to go and find a small plastic container (about 100 mm x 30 mm) hidden at

N NP NB.FLH
W AAH N(F+K).(D+L)QC

Inside the container are further directions to lead you on to the final cache.

All parts of the cache trail may be subject to heavy Muggle traffic since the area is popular with dog walkers.

PLEASE be very cautious when finding or replacing any container, especially the final cache. If the containers are not VERY well hidden then the local youths will destroy them.

When you have found the final cache, there is no need to retrace your steps. This is planned as a circular walk so continue travelling in the same direction to get back to the start point.

There are several other caches located along this cache trail. Bring details of other Emsworth area caches with you and keep an eye on your GPS.

Additional Hints (Decrypt)

[For the first container] Vafvqr n fznyy gerr [For the final cache Under a fallen tree on the river bank - dont get wet!
