Geocache Description:

MARCH IS TEXAS HISTORY MONTH.
To celebrate this month and to honor STEPHEN F. AUSTIN who is called the "Father of Texas," I've hidden a cache near his picture --a parking lot sign! (As of spring 2007, Austin's picture was removed and replaced with a picture of a baseball player and "Lot A". Not very patriotic, but I guess appropriate since it's by the Ballpark stadium.) In 1821, Stephen F. Austin was one of the first to start a successful colony of 300 families near the Brazos River. The settlement was called San Felipe de Austin. Through hard work and skillful leadership he brought a total of more than 1,500 families to settle in Texas.Texas at that time was under Mexican rule. In 1836, when Texas became a Republic, he was appointed Secretary of State by Sam Houston. Later in 1839, the small town of Waterloo changed its name to Austin to honor Stephen Austin and became the state capital.

The original contents are Texas items such as, TX pins and magnets,TX pencils, TX flags, TX koozie, Ft. Worth marshall badges.
