Wellington's Booty Multi-Cache
The Mount View Crew: As I am not currently taking part in Geocaching, I have not paid this a visit to ascertain its status. Seems only fair at this stage to archive it, to open the area for another cache possibly. A pretty good innings - 6 years or so.

An easy walk over fields and through woods. Terrain is reasonable, but with a couple of short, steep inclines.
This is a short walk in a little known part of Aldershot. The co-ordinates above are for the car park (free). Please note that you cannot access this car park directly from the A325, but will need to turn off the A325 at the Wellington Roundabout onto Wellesley Road and then follow the signs to the Wellington Statue.
The statue that you will see from the car park is “The Wellington Statue” which was built in honour of Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington, and shows the Duke in military uniform on his horse “Copenhagen”. He was one of the leading Military and Political figures of the 19th Century, leading the Allied forces at Waterloo in the Napoleonic Wars and also becoming Prime Minister on two separate occasions.
The Statue was originally located on top of an arch at Hyde Park corner in 1846. By 1882 traffic in this area had become too heavy and the statue had to be moved. As a great military commander it was considered that Aldershot (which is still referred to as the home of the British Army) would be an appropriate location, and in 1885 he was finally relocated to his present location.
In recent years the area around the Statue had become quite neglected, and was no longer visible from the nearby A325. A committee was formed and much work was undertaken to improve the area, and the Statue and surrounding area have now been vastly improved.
The cache has a couple of simple clues, which allow you to appreciate the area more.
Firstly, you need to go to N 51.15.120, W 000.46.644, from where you get a good view of the Royal Garrison Church of All Saints. Here you need to make a note of which Anniversary of the Battle of Mons that the Avenue was built in.

Next, go to N 51.15.200, W000.46.788. Count the number of white posts that surround the statue.

The final location of the cache is at N 51.15.EFA, W 000.46.555. The area is quite popular with dog walkers, so beware of Muggles! The cache is in a medium sized Tupperware type container, and contains various goodies – Farty Putty, marbles, playing cards, toy car, coloured pencils, pencil sharpener/rubber. It also has a camera with which you can take a photo of your find, should you wish.
