This cache is one of a series of caches hidden along or near the "fire road" on top of Cacapon Mountain in the beautiful Cacapon Resort State Park. This scenic state park is located just off of Route 522 in WV, not very far north of Winchester, VA.
As of 4/20/2014, this cache is now a large one perfect for holding TBs.
When you enter the park, just follow the signs to the Mountain Overlook. The road to the overlook starts out paved and turns to gravel for about 4 miles to get you to the top. For trucks and Jeeps, this will be a breeze, but any car that doesn’t have a very low clearance shouldn’t have any trouble as the road is maintained pretty well. While the road to the top is closed from October to March, as far as we can tell the trails remain open year round. The 5 mile Ziler Loop Trail will get you to the top if you’re up for a hiking challenge, although for this particular cache, that would be quite a hike. The normal park hours are 6 AM till dark.
Visit www.cacaponresort.com for detailed park information.
This cache is located close to the overlook itself. Still, please pay attention to your surroundings. These rocks are home to some creatures you do NOT want to blunder into. Walking sticks are useful items for poking into places you wouldn't want to put your hands into. Please be careful...
The cache itself is a large ammo can, initially containing some various swag, a new log book and pens, as well as one of our pathtags for the next finder.
Enjoy.
