Geocache Description:

Micro just off of a trail after a short hike. Park on Oak Ledge Lane in Wilton, CT.

Gnomes. I’m sure you’ve heard the stories; those cute little fellows with the red, pointy hats. You’ve probably read about them in Fairy Tales, and you might even have a statue of one in your yard. They have the reputation of being pleasant, friendly creatures. Well, I just went through the process of dealing with one and let me tell you friends, the legends are all wrong!

It started near the end of last spring. While working in my garden I began catching glimpses of a small figure darting about while I was weeding. With repeated sightings, I eventually came to the realization that I had a real-life garden gnome running about my home.

At first I thought it was pretty cool, but then my flowers began disappearing, followed by the squirrels and chipmunks. The little creep was killing and eating everything it could get its grubby hands on. Worse still, the Gnome started sleeping somewhere in the house, and the flatulence that critter let out would wake us up in the middle of the night. Horrible!

Finally I’d had enough. I decided to trap the thing and move it away into the forest. I tried food as a lure, but it didn’t work. I found that the best bait was another Gnome, since they are very territorial creatures. I whittled up a decoy, and the next morning I had the little bugger caught! I took it to some nearby woods to release him, and with a final spiteful bite on my finger (it left a scar) he scampered off to start his new life.

As a memorial to the Gnome, I took the lure I created and made a Micro out of it. If you manage to find it, you’ll know what a pain it was to catch the critter. While signing the log, watch your back – the real thing might be sneaking up on you!

Cache Notes:
The container contains a log and pencil only. Please leave the container as you found it, so that others may enjoy the hide. Be warned that evil gnomeish magic makes sat reception very tricky in this area!
