Geocache Description:

THE CACHE: Difficulty is a 3.0 due to the camo job and a high muggle factor. The Cache is a small sized container camo’d well to blend into its surroundings. The container has a pen and some room for a few small trade items. Please use stealth mode when getting this one. Please also hide it as well as you found it. IMPORTANT: PLEASE PUT THE LID TIGHTLY BACK ON THE CONTAINER!

THE PLACE: The cache is located in a public area. You do not need to trample onto any nearby neighbors’ yards. The site is open 24/7.

PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION and use your best judgment with due regard for your safety when deciding to approach the cache location.

BEWARE: Google Earth and Terra Server do not have have up to date pictures of this self-contained location's topography.

FTF PRIZE: A FTF Certificate and an unregistered travel bug tag.

THE BACKGROUND: Since 2004, the Keep Oakland Beautiful Campaign involved thousands of volunteers who fanned out across the city to plant 100,000 daffodil bulbs in street medians, parks and embankments — in short, "anywhere where the public can see and enjoy the blooms." For more information see: Bulb Planting

So if you ever wondered why Oakland has started bursting into yellow daffodil bloom in the Spring, this is why.

This cache location is probably one of the daffodil volunteer’s projects. It sports either white tea roses or daffodils depending on the time of year.

The Keep Oakland Beautiful chapter is an affiliate of the nationally known Keep America Beautiful nonprofit organization established 50 years ago, which now includes a network of more than 500 towns, cities and counties throughout the United States. Its stated mission is to inspire individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community environments.

Oakland's chapter was organized in 2004. In addition to the bulb-planting campaign, they have various other volunteer opportunities. They help host the annual Earth Expo in Frank Ogawa Plaza as well as the Earth Day events where volunteers can sign up to 'clean and green' their neighborhoods at more than 50 project locations throughout Oakland.

More volunteers from the Keep Oakland Beautiful Campaign will be planting trees during the Arbor Day celebration. In previous years, they have organized tree plantings at Lake Merritt, Brookdale Recreation Center and the Chabot Space & Science Center. For updates, you can check out the Public Works website.

Enjoy!
