This is a 3 stage multi which will take you hiking along the Difficult Run Hiking Trail, and near the original site of Browns Mill. The Difficult Run trail actually starts at the Potomac River, and continues on into the heart of Fairfax County.
In the 17 and 1800’s mills for grinding grain were very important to the economy of Northern Virginia. Even today you can see the heritage of Fairfax County mills in the names of roads, the restored Colvin Run Mill in Great Falls, etc. One lesser known mill was Browns Mill, which no longer exists but left its legacy in the name of Browns Mill Road located between Reston and Vienna.
The original site of Browns Mill was on Wolftrap Run at the intersection of Beulah Rd. and Browns Mill Rd. All you can see today, however, are suburban homes (see the photos for an old, undated, photo of Browns Mill, and the site today).
The total hike for all 3 stages will be roughly 2.3 miles (unless you cheat), over a flat but sometimes muddy trail. If you have a mountain bike this would be a good trail for it.
The first 2 stages are micros located not far from the trail. I got tired of replacing Stage 1, so there is a "backup" container there about 8 feet from the original. Please be sure to replace them exactly as you found them. The 3rd and final stage is a 50 cal ammo can, which requires some easy bushwacking. Stage 1 has the coords for Stage 2, and Stage 2 the coords for Stage 3.
