When the checkpoints were eliminated between Eagle Rock and Highland Park and the border guards sent elsewhere, it became easy to travel within the new free trade zone. The problem was that, although transit was simplified between the two former colonies along Eagle Rock Boulevard or Figueroa, it was not so easy to traverse the high mountain passes.
To get from Galco's (Soda Pop Shop) in Highland Park to Trader Joe's in Eagle Rock required complicated hilltop navigation. So land was expropriated from the People's Republic of Occidental and a new stretch of Townsend Avenue plunged recklessly (but probably not wrecklessly) over the Eagle Rock equivalent of the Brenner Pass.
I had intended to place this at the "To Eagle Rock" border crossing sign, but that wouldn't work - on the other hand, the yellow arrow across the way points right to the hanging camo'd cache.
