Drake Point Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

popop: It is with great sadness I archive this longstanding cache! Yes, it was missing when I checked today. I leave this unique and favorited location for someone else to put a new cache.

Thanks to one and all who braved the rough trail and expressed their enjoyment in hunting it!

Geocache Description:

Here is a cache for the adventuresome. It's located out on the point of a very narrow, brushy and eroding peninsula known as Drake Point.

There is a controversy about exactly which west coast cove British explorer Sir Francis Drake used in 1579 to escape the rain and fog. One theoretical location is this south cove of Cape Arago and hence the name.

Begin your hunt with a visit to the nearby historical marker (see additional waypoint below) The trail head is roughly 16 paces (one pace is TWO footsteps) to the west of this historical marker.

This "trail" is NOT maintained by anyone so expect to fight the brush and some steep portions. You may even find yourself scratching your head over where the trail went but c'mon it's a very narrow piece of land - not too many places to go! There are a couple of places along the trail where being a good limbo dancer could come in handy. It can be very slippery in wet weather.

All that said, once you're on the point you are treated to some great views of the coast line! Enjoy!
