The Dogwood Trail in Beaver
Creek State Park is a beautiful 2 mile loop trail that
takes you along Beaver Creek and then up onto the
hillside. The trail is part of the North
Country Trail System. There are deciduous trees and
a stand of tall old pines. In the spring, the
wildflowers are truly a site to behold! The lower part
of the loop follows the tow path for the old Sandy-Beaver
Canal.
Note: I have rated the
terrain based on the upper leg of the trail. If there is
high water, do not use the lower leg of the trail. Portions of the
lower leg are literally at the water's edge.
I have included all the items from my
permanently archived "High on a Hill" (GCT33H) cache in this cache
plus some other items. There is a prize for the FTF of
a hardwood (either choke cherry or maple, I can't remember which)
walking stick engraved with "WAAS" . (And remember, folks, I
am certainly not a master craftsman.) It is right with the
cache so no further searching is necessary. If the FTF
chooses not to take it, please just leave it there for the next
person.
This geocache is placed with the
permission of the rangers and naturalists at the park. Many
of them are geocachers and gladly support the sport.
So if you would like to place a geocache in one of Ohio's State
parks, be sure to contact them. They will give you some
interesting ideas and information.
If you are here on a weekend between May and
October, do yourself a favor and visit the Beaver Creek Wildlife
Education Center at N40°42.952', W080° 36.772'. Here you will
find displays and live animals that are all found
locally.
As always, obey all rules and safety
measures.
