History
The Cole family came to Ireland from Devonshire in the last
years of the reign of Elizabeth I and were undertakers in the
plantation of Ulster. They initially lived at Enniskillen castle and
later at Portora Castle. In 1707 John Cole married Florence Wrey
and is believed to have built a hunting lodge on the site of the
present house. It is not known for definite when, or by who, the
present house was built but the Georgian Society arrived at 1764 as
the year in which the house was completed. Lord Enniskillen and his
son, Viscount Cole, gave Florence Court to the National Trust in
1953.
This is one of three caches in the grounds of Florencecourt. The
other two are
'Brookside' and
'Ding Dong Bell'.
Stage 1 Go to the coordinates given above and
note the year inscribed there. The first digit is A, the second is
B, the third C and the fourth is D. The coordinates for stage 2
are N54 15.(A+D), B, Dx(A+C) W007 43.(B-A), (B-C), (B-D)
+C
Stage 2 The coordinates bring you to a wall.
Examine this wall carefully and you will find an unusual feature.
How many stone blocks are above the feature? Let this equal E. How
many stone blocks are below it? (Ignore the half block at the very
bottom). Let this equal F. The coordinates for Stage 3 are N54
15.392, W007 43.973.
Stage 3. How many windows can you see? Let this
equal G. The coordinates for the Final Stage are N54 15.
(G-E)(G+E)(F+E), W007 43.G(2G+E)(F+1-2G).
Final Stage. The cache is at the base of a tree
about 20' to the North of the coordinates obtained in Stage 3
NB Any logs or notes dated before 2009 which refer to Stage
2, no longer apply. This stage has been altered to make the
multi more interesting.(and a bit easier!)
