Geocache Description:

Adventure Out - Martin's Tank

In Series #3 we take you to another of our favourite day trips &/or camping locations within 300km of Perth.

Located 20km south of Mandurah is Martin's Tank - the official camping area of the Yalgorup (Preston Beach) National Park. This is an excellent day trip - though we recommend you camp overnight to enjoy the natural wonders of this great location.

The camping area is best explored by foot.  A walk-trail starts 50 metres past the camping area and another leads to the lake nearby.  The lake is home to numerous birds and is one of ten such lakes - reputed to be seven times saltier than the ocean.

The townsite of Preston Beach is also worth a quick explore - though you will have to drive there from the camping area.  If you are don't mind sand greens, the 9 nine golf course is recommended.  It winds its way around the town and is a great way to explore the whole place on foot as the course takes you to the high and low points of the townsite.  But beware - the rough is unforgiving!  So take plenty of balls!

The highlight is the wildlife.  The campground is an excellent location from which to witness the native fauna.  On our numerous trips we have seen possums (up close - they will walk about your camp), bats, numerous birds, kangaroos and much, much more.

The campground has good pit toilets, BBQs and lots of camping space.  You can choose from individual camping spots or the group camping area.

To commence your hunt for the cache, locate the information bay and look for the walk-trails sign.  Follow path to the lake.

The cache is a located on the walk around the lake.  It is a flat tupperware container of good size (lengthwise) but lacks height - so it would be best suited to smaller swaps.  It contains a collection of good trades and something special too for the FTF.  A collection of spoiler pics for the cache and FTF prize are provided in the picture gallery.  Take some time to view these.

More information on the area and how to get to Martin's Tank can be found at the links provided below:
