Geocache Description:

About a mile down dirt road take blue trail to the top of Pine Mountain.
20 ft. off trail in mountain laurel. Medium size screw top container. This one will be a little harder to spot from the trail then the 5 gal pail.
Please replace in exact same spot.

The Cache is located in Tunxis state forest. Park at N41 56.893 W 072 55.027 just off of Rt. 179.
The total distance from gate if you stay on the dirt and take the first left up the blue trail is approximately 1.6 miles. Blue trail head N 41 58.469 W072 55.918
Time for return hike with our 4 year old was 40 minutes.
Nice hike through the state forest with a view at the end.
The distance from the gate as the crow flies is .7 miles. If you try it, YOYO .
As we were hiking to the cache, I explained how the mountain laurel made a good hiding place for deer.
Dad says to the children, “A deer could sit down 20 feet from the path and it would be hard to see.”
I decided to prove my point. The original cache was about as big around as a very large deer and the same color.
I just dropped it 20 feet off the trail in the mountain laurel with no additional camouflage.
So if you are up for a challenge try the find without the GPS.
Did we mention that it’s a pain in the butt… and legs to bushwhack though mountain laurel?
There is a geodetic marker (Pine MT 1980) within 100 feet of the cache.
Don’t let the little ones wander too far to the east of the marker, as there is a fairly steep drop.
Tried to make the cache kid friendly. Lots of roots on trail.
Area closed at sunset.
Have fun!
