Geocache Description:

This cache was hidden on day 3 of the Ben Macdhui hiking trail near Rhodes in the Eastern Cape. At 2455m above sea level.

After an ascent to the height of 2566.8m above sea level and within view of the Ben Macdhui Peak (3001m) the highest peak in the Eastern Cape, the trail goes to 2535m asl to the Hooggenoeg Hut (“high enough”). This hut is the highest hiking hut on a South African Hiking Trail. In winter the hut is used by Tiffendell Ski Resort as accommodation – about 8 km from Tiffendell.

Shortly after the departure from the hut on the 3rd day of the hike, you will reach a viewpoint from where the Carlisle’s Hoek Falls can be viewed. This magnificent waterfall is 40m high. The trail then descends down the slopes to the Carlisle’s Hoek Stream and runs along this stream back towards Rhodes.

The cache is hidden near this viewpoint. Take time out to drink in the sheer natural beauty of the area. The photos in the gallery will give you an indication of what to expect and what to prepare for. Roads on maps of the area are not accessible to normal vehicles – at least something with high ground clearance or 4x4 is recommended. In winter snow may make the roads inaccessible.

The cache is a 1l-container with a logbook and the usual goodies. The photos in the gallery will give you an idea of what to prepare for. Enjoy the hunt!!!
