Geocache Description:

Glenlatterach Reservoir supplies the majority of water for the city of Elgin, and is another place which brings back memories of my childhood!

In actual fact being at Glenlatterach is my very first memory. I was about two and a half and I remember coming here on a family picnic. I have two clear memories of that day – the first one is standing at the reservoir edge with my Dad and throwing stones into the water with him. The second one happened later on back at my Granny’s house - I was on the tartan picnic rug which was then lifted up by various family members and I was tossed up and down, and swung around inside the blanket!

Fast forward 36 years and there is now no vehicular access to the reservoir - unless you want to fly fish for brown trout whilst you are here (between May and September), in which case you will be given the combination for the gate lock! (visit link)

We parked at N57 34.398 W003 20.362, being careful not to block the gateway. However, we set this cache on a Sunday so I am not sure whether there would be restrictions on parking here during the week.

The cache is approximately one and a quarter miles from these parking co-ordinates. First three quarters of a mile are on tarmaced road, the last half mile is on a track which can be very boggy and wet in places, so suitable footwear is needed. In fact, when we set this cache there was so much water on parts of the track that some of the deeper pools contained frog spawn!

Follow the road uphill through the houses and climb the gate, then follow the road round until you reach N57 33.756 W003 20.795. Access to the reservoir is straight ahead but to locate the cache you need to take the track leading left up into the moorland. There is a stile to climb just before the cache site. Good views up to the windfarm from here!
