This cache is located high atop a seldom hiked peak overlooking the San Gabriel Valley and the entire Los Angeles basin. You more than likely have seen this peak, but the odds are you've never been here. The only footprints today were from our four legged friends that call these mountains their home. While your up here you may get lucky to see some deer, squirrels, or even a mountain lion. You'll be in a forest of Oak, Incense Cedar and Coulter Pines. The Coulter Pine produces the largest pinecones in North America. They are known as the widow makers. Pick one up, you'll understand how they got their name.
This area offers a fabulous view of the city. If your fortunate enough to spend the night at the campground nearby, the night lights of the city can be breathtaking. Heck, the Angeles is a dispersed forest. If you understand that, then this area will offer even more for you.
The cache can be gotten to from a few directions. Which ever way you pick, plan on at least about a 13 mile round trip journey. There are no short cuts! Make sure you bring water and food. You can enjoy a picnic at the cache area. When I placed the cache, there was a lush thick green grass covering the entire mountain top. Later in the year these green grasses more than likely will turn to dry and dead weeds. Ticks may live there but no travel bugs came home with me today. Rattlesnakes enjoy these mountains too, so be aware of this. NEVER grab under any rocks or bushes without checking them out with a long stick of some sort. You get bitten up here and it won't be good!!!
Once up on top, you'll be looking for a white metal First Aid Kit!! Inside you will find...but of course, a First Aid Kit. What, you thought something else?? Well there are other goodies as well. You'll find...a Swiss Army Knife, Carbineer, Ear Plugs, an UncleJon Silver token, a Smokey Bear Comic, a Support Our Troops Bracket, a couple of buttons, a Michael Waltrip & Jeff Burton NASCAR Trading Card (unopened packages), a Kelloggs Corn Flake's Chicken Beanie Baby, Egg Salad GeoCoin & Wombling Womble Travel Bug. The log book is the "Friendship Book" A pen has been provided for you.
DO NOT take the First Aid Kit. It's in there in case it's needed.
You've come this far so trade up. Please leave NO food items of any type!! The critters will find it before you're down the mountain.
As always...
Happy Caching.
