Horizon View Nike Site Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

seadoyles: It's been a good run...222 finds. But it's time to retire this cache. I recently searched for some micro caches over in Wenatchee on their Apple Trail (a great bike ride). I was surprised and disappointed that many of these caches were in trees, bushes and trashy spots. It made me reflect on why we put caches out there - to enrich the experience of others and lead them to places they would not otherwise find on their own. Horizon View Nike Site Cache fits the bill for that objective. However, I've come to believe that micro caches in "the woods" are stupid and frustrating. In an urban setting, micros are fine. So, I am retiring Horizon View Nike Site Cache. Thanks to all finders and my apologies to anyone who had a hard time with it. I will soon deploy a full-size cache somewhere in the area. [:)]

Geocache Description:

Bison cache in our local park which was formerly a Nike Missile installation according to neighborhood historians. It must have been reassuring to know that missiles defended LFP from attack! Park at N 47° 46.449 W 122° 16.630 No bushwhacking required but gloves may be useful.

The Nike missile system was one of the world's first successful anti-aircraft missile systems. Becoming operational during 1953, the missiles were deployed at over two-hundred sites across the continental United States and were also widely used overseas by both U.S. and foreign armed forces. To learn more and see some cool pictures visit http://alpha.fdu.edu/~bender/nike.html Today, the site is Horizon View Park with a great grassy area, play structures for little ones and a fine jogging trail. The small loop is a quarter mile. The larger loop is one mile. On a clear day you can see Seattle to the south from the cache site. The cache can be accessed just a few feet off the trail - no bushwhacking! When re-hiding the cache please assure that it cannot be seen from the path.
