Geocache Description:

?The Dynamite Cache is located on the Dynamite Trail which is an abandoned railway line
between Martins River and Mahone Bay that is being converted to a multi-use trail. The cache
was placed by the 2nd Maitland Scouts from Mahone Bay. We chose this location for its scenic
beauty and because it is a great place to go for a walk. The area boarding the trail in the area of
the cache is the Oakland Common. The common is approximately 350 acres. It was granted as
common land in 1773 by King George the third and continues to be held in trust by the residents
of Oakland. Historically the common would have been used for pasture, fencepost and firewood
cutting and for gravel. For the future the community has decided to let the common evolve as
nature determines. The Lake near the cache is Common Lake and it is entirely surrounded by the
Oakland Common and the Dynamite Trail. This is a beautiful spot that all can enjoy from the
Dynamite Trail. For more info on the Dynamite Trail contact the Municipal trail Coordinator,
Laura Barkhouse at 902-541-1352 or lbarkhouse@modl.ca

The closest access to the cache is to use the trail parking area at The Narrows where the
Dynamite trail meets the Oakland / Indian point road ( N 44 28.024 W 64 19.799 ). It is about a 10 minute walk on the rail trail to the cache.

We look forward to seeing who finds it first and challenge other scouting / guiding groups to visit
the cache.
