Peckerwood Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mearth: Happened to be travelling up this trail today, after yesterday's DNF. I couldn't find it either. Not in any of the several places cachers have chosen to re-hide it over time. Presumed muggled.

Geocache Description:

A birder's cache on the Klipsun trail. Terrain difficulty can vary greatly depending on your approach: 1 to 3.5

This cache is placed on the Klipsun trail on Alabama hill. At this spot, several dead snags host a great number and variety of birds thanks to the different types of woodpeckers in the area. In the late winter and early spring, several fearless woodpeckers can be seen hammering holes in the trees, looking for food or digging nest cavitities. Since woodpeckers only use a nest cavity for one season, the hole becomes available for other cavity nesters in future years. Woodpeckers have drilled scores of nest cavities in the 1/2 dozen dead snags here and lots of feathered couples take advantage of the free homes. In early spring the bird song, woodpecker drumming and mating-ritual chatter is thick.

Swag or TB's should be less than 2" in girth. Mind the nearby muggle hovels! The original spot for this cache allowed a finder to hunker down in a "hidden" spot. That is no longer the case, though the cache is only about 10 feet away. I suggest carrying the cache a bit up or down the trail to complete your geo-transaction.

IT IS NOT HIDDEN IN THE SMALL ROCK WALL! Do not fiddle with the rocks.
