Tour de Saline Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

PittCaleb: I wanted to thank all who sought out the Tour de Saline series and especially the 51 people who found all preliminary and then the final stage!

I moved away from the area a year ago and the caches were maintained and looked after by BTippie. Thanks Brian for your help with the Tour caches!

I believe, based on the lack of activity on the caches, pretty much all the locals have found the series and have moved on to newer ones. It's time to clear these caches from the landscape and allow new ones to be placed.

So the race is on - some quite small parks are now ready to have creative hides placed! Let's see what you Salinian's can do! I do home a Saline local, rather than one of yuinz from A2 or Chelsea, can make the placements and keep "ownership" of the Saline parks local!

Cheers & Happy Caching!

Geocache Description:

This is the final cache in the Tour de Saline series. The coordinates given are of "4 corners" downtown Saline and not the location of the actual cache. This is the "finish line" (Fin) for the Tour de Saline 10-cache series which will give you a tour of all 9 official city parks in the city. At each cache, you will retrieve a number which will be used to find the actual location of this cache. This cache is located in one of the 9 parks in the city you have already visited.

As of 10.2.07, the colony park cache is MIA. The needed coordinate offsets are listed on the Colony Park cache page. When a new cache is placed (late October) you will again have to find the cache to determine the actual coordinates of the final. Note: In summer, this area is overrun with mosquitos, be prepared. As well, all Saline parks are stinging nettle infested, long pants are suggested during this time. Lastly, you will probably not find the trail that gets you to this cache and thus require moderate to heavy bushwacking. It is probably not kid-friendly during the summer. In the fall, winter & early spring, it is MUCH easier to get to and is even kid friendly. There *is* a trail that gets you fairly close to the cache, but it's so far out of the way, none of you will find it. So - pants, deet and no kids - or wait till fall and it will be a terrain 2 with no problems. (note added & terrain modified 6.4.06) Tour de Saline - Fin - Set April 1, 2006

In order to find this cache, you must first find the other 9 Tour de Saline clues. These 9 caches range from easy-to-find regular sized containers to very difficult micro's. At each cache location, there will be a set of numbers on the first page of the log book. You will be adding (or subtracting if negative) those numbers from the published coordinates of this cache. Because they are both positive and negative, you not be able to guess at this location and will only be able to find it after successfully finding all pre-requisite caches.

Above is a map of all official parks in the city of Saline. A stage has been placed in each one. The GeoCaching.com name is in the format of "Tour de Saline - parkname" Not all caches will be on-line immediately and you will not be able to find this final cache until all 9 preliminary caches have been published.

This cache contains some excellent items from GeoCaching.com for the first few finders who complete the 10-cache series. Your hard work will be generously rewarded! There are and will be no hints for this cache, although I will reply to questions about it via e-mail or the MiGo Cacher Phone List queries.
