Watt's the point? (Bristol) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

jri: I'm afraid I've got less time these days to look after my caches, and this one is no longer on my way to work. So, after over six years, it's now time to lay this one to rest, and free up the coordinates for something new. Thanks to all the finders!

JRI.

Geocache Description:

An easy-to-find micro in Horfield Common, Bristol. Firm underfoot, with no difficult terrain or vegetation, the location is wheelchair accessible, but a wheelchair user would be unlikely to be able to reach the hiding place from their chair. (Handicaching rating H11113). The Difficulty rating reflects the amount of stealth required to retrieve this cache unseen.

This is the first cache I've hidden, so feedback is welcome. I've put it somewhere I've seen almost daily, while stuck at traffic lights on my way to work (it's inspired by the drive-by caches of the USA, like GCR5NG - Ben).

The cache is hidden in a corner of Horfield Common, the strand of green strung alongside Kellaway Avenue from Gloucester Road to the Golden Hill Tesco store. There are a couple of play areas on the common, the Horfield Sports Centre at one end and the Ardagh tennis courts and bowling green at other, but this part sometimes seems almost forgotten. I wonder how many other commuters stopped here ponder who the odd memorial is for, or think about coming back here for a picnic on the grass, some day when the weather is better.

The cache is a 35mm film cannister, containing pencil and log sheet. The hiding place is near a busy road, so if you have small children or dogs with you please use caution (and the pedestrian crossing!) There's lots of on-street parking space nearby, except when there's a match on at the Memorial Stadium.

According to Shakespears Clowns the feature the cache is hidden in used to be located in Egerton Road, Bishopston, but was moved to its current site around the beginning of WW2. If anyone knows any more of its history, please let me know!
