Geocache Description:

This is a 4X8X2" Thk L&L with restocked goodies. As suggested by a couple of people, I made it bigger. Hope bigger lasts as long as smaller. It is located at the end of Oil Camp Rd., just off Jones Gap Rd. in upper SC. Rugged parking is provided.

This is little used part of Caesars Head State Park. The walk is .29 miles along a beautiful Mountain stream on almost flat ground. This is a great place for a private picnic, and for the kids to play.
I’m going to give a little history as heard from the natives. Back in the early 1900’s, the area where the cache is placed was a “Bear hunting camp”. In fact, there were so many bears killed, the men dressed and washed the meat in the nearby stream, leaving an oily residue downstream. From this problem, it was called Oil Camp creek. I had long wondered about this name until I ran into a native while getting ready to hide this cache.
I also met a bicyclist who said you could go to 276 or on down to Bald Rock from this point.I have hiked down this rugged road from 276 and over to Jones gap, by way of trail 20. There is a 100 ft cascade and falls about 1/4 mile on past the cache on the right. There are several small falls on up the trail and lots of good hiking trails.
One note of warning from the Caesar’s Head State Park. This area has Turkey hunting in the month of April!
You might want to plan your hikes. Sunday would probably be a better day. You don’t want to go early or late in the day.
