The hike to the cache is only 1.3 miles along Whitewood Creek; I suggest continuing on down the trail for a very nice hike after finding the cache. There are a lot of trees at the cache site – I hope this does not throw off the GPSr too much.
This cache takes you down a short way on the George S. Mickelson Trail beginning at the Kirk Trailhead. This is an absolutely beautiful area that can be hiked, biked, horseback ridden, or skied. The trail is very well maintained during the summer – it may be snowy or icy in the winter. There is a fee of $2.00 per person per day or $10 per person for the year.
The Kirk Trailhead is 1/2 mile south of Lead on Hwy. 85 and 1 1/2 miles west. Park here: N44 20.547 W103 45.485 and have a great hike! For information and maps, see WWW.MICKELSONTRAIL.COM for lots of information including directions to trailhead and maps
