Peralta Adobe Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mr7teen: I have decided to get out of the geocache hiding business. I have tried to create caches that are interesting and informative but am now giving up. Many cachers have thanked me for my history hides and I am sorry that I can no longer create these hides. As my historical hides become difficult to maintain I will archive them. Maybe I should create hides under lamppost skirts in Walmart parking lots.

Geocache Description:

Spanish Governor Arrellaga granted 62,512 acres of land to Jose Antonio Yorba and his nephew, Juan Pablo Peralta. This land grant was called the Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana. This adobe was built by Ramon Peralta in 1871. The community of Peralta started with nine adobes, a combination saloon and pottery shop and a school. The adobe was occupied by several families over the years. In 1908 E. Walter Payne bought the adobe, by then melted from the rain, and partially restored it by affixing concrete to the walls and re-plastering the inside. This action saved the adobe. Payne leased the adobe to be used as a cafe. The cafe closed in the mid 1960's when the Riverside Freeway removed the traffic from Santa Ana Canyon Road.
