Geocache Description:

The above listed coordinates are for parking only.

Known as the Old Burying Ground at Mushamush the waypoints for the cache are within the cemetery but the cache is outside of the fence. Please respect the graves as you explore the area to find the clues. The waypoints will get you in the general area of the clues but you will have to read gravestones to locate the exact clue therefore we determined the diffculty as a 4.(GPS bounces making it difficult to give exact waypoints)

The earliest inhabitants of this area were the Mi'kmaq people. European settlement began with the French at Merligouche, now known as Lunenburg, but during the mid-1700's with the British recruitment of German, Swiss and French Protestants as immigrants. Foreign protestant pioneers settled in Mahone Bay in 1754. Theses settlers were predominantly German Lutherans and the gravestones of the original settlers are marked in German. 18th century slate gravestones engraved in German are found as you enter your journey back in history at the beginning of the graveyard. The words are all but erased by the centuries of storms blowing off the Atlantic.
The Presbyterian Church sat nearby this cemetery until 1885 when it was moved on blocks to a more central location about 1/4 of a mile away. It took ten days and lots of men, horses and logs to roll Trinity to where she stands now.
Alongside the Presbyterian Church sat an Anglican Church which was torn down and the Anglican Church which is located on the waterfront was built. There is a marker within the graveyard indicating where this church once stood.
