Geocache Description:

Cache is a lock & lock container situated on a berm.

Park in Almondbank, or Get the bus from Perth Stagecoach 14 (visit link) or 15 (visit link) and get of at Mackenzie Drive. Head up track through white gates at East Drive. Cache is located close to Methven Loch a small Lochan which marks the eastern boundry af Methven.

East Drive is the old coach road to Methven Castle. The present castle at Methven, built by the Duke of Lennox, dates from the mid 17th Century and is one of the last traditional tower house style castles to be built in Scotland.

The lands were originally held by the Mowbrays from the 11th Century. They passed to the Earls of Atholl but became forfeit to the King in 1427.

Margaret Tudor, sister of Henry VIII of England, lived in Methven Castle from 1526-41. Margaret married her 3rd husband Henry Stewart (later Lord Methven) in 1526.
