A view of Lancaster County
I am placing the "Here's Looking At You" series in places where there is something interesting to see. This is the third in this series.
There are a lot of hunters that know this area. If you visit during hunting season wear orange. I rescued a herd. It's crowded in here so find the cache and take one home for a pet.
The trick with this one is finding the access road. It's not on maps and not on MapQuest. When I first found this spot there was a fire tower here. There was a great view of Lancaster County from the top. The fire tower has been replaced by a communications tower but the ranger station is still standing.
Drive past the ranger station to the parking lot on the right side of the road. This will be about as far as you can go most of the year. There is a gate across the road a short distance from the parking lot. I think its open during hunting season. The cache is 4/10 of a mile from this parking lot.
Stay on the road until you get to 40 14.363 76 23.049. You will able to overlook Lancaster County by looking south (or atleast it was possible before the trees grew. Check iwhen the leaves are off the trees). When ready, continue west. You will be bushwacking to the cache but you do not need to go through the "large" briar patch. There are briars all over the area, however.
Please put the entire cache back into the larger bag.
Please do not post the location of the access road. If you can't find it, post a DNF then email me. I will send you coordinates.
Warning: To my knowledge this road does not get winter maintenance.
