HighCountryAdmin: I am archiving this defunct geocache to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. Geocache Description:

This cache is located on BLM Land in the Ojito Wilderness Study Area. The hike to the cache is mostly an easy walk, with a bit of uphill scrambling near the end. (It is not a park and grab.)

Ojito is a beautiful, magical place that we discovered through geocaching, so it only seemed right that we would place our first cache here...

The BLM has asked us to remember that we always need to be mindful of the fragile nature of the Ojito Wilderness. Geocaching will continue to be a welcome activity on BLM lands only if we favor hiking skills over driving skills. This cache is not meant to be a “park and grab,” and off-road driving activities are illegal.
Please help to protect and honor this wonderful resource.

You should park at N 35° 29.727, W 106° 55.282, then follow the trail to the gate at N 35° 30.169, W 106° 55.381. From there, you are on your own. It is a beautiful area and there is much to see, so we encourage you to explore the area. Without additional exploring, the round trip is about 1.8 miles.

The cache is an ammo box and, in addition to the log book and pens, it contains a wind up flash light, some nature guides, numerous Las Perdidas petroglyphs (including our new refrigerator magnets and sigitems!) and some glow in the dark spiders. Please be careful to restore the cache hiding place, so that the cache stays well hidden.

You will see a small hoodoo near the cache and you can see others from the cache, if you know where to look. Hiking further to 'Ojito Hoodoos' by The Browns will certainly give you an up close experience with hoodoos.
Beware, there are lots of ledges, rocks, nooks and crannies in the area, so watch out for rattlesnakes!
