The cache container is a 30.cal ammo box. We love hiking and history lessons, so we placed the cache in the D&H canal area. The path is a tow path. This was used in helping aid the river boats along the cacal to prevent the boats from rubbing on the walls on the canal causing washouts. I'm amazed the canal is in good shape. There's alot of wildlife in the area so watch out!
The total distance back and forth from the gate is alittle over one mile. The path will lead up to the hornsbeck basin, there are two caches there, but it would be a long walk. If anyone attempts the long hike to hornsbeck, let us know how it was. Take time to look in the canal for turtles, they pop up every now and then. Mostly enjoy the cache and have fun.
