While scouting out a place to put a new ammo can, Ms. Butterfly, Dustin, and I decided we wanted to make this one memorable. Oh yeah - and evil. When we came upon this overpass along the trail, we just couldn't resist. When you get here, look at how the branch starts at one tree, nicely bends down, and joins the other tree on the other side of the barbed wire fence. Facinating.
Anyway, it's kind of hard to determine whether this should be a 4.5 or a 5.0. I suppose you don't need any special gear as I did it without any. But, you may want some.
Ms. Butterfly did the initial scouting work. Then I followed that up with the actual placement. This might be a good one to bring some Monkeez with you for the actual retrieval.
Getting accurate coordinates was really difficult here. At one point, after letting the GPSr average around 110 times, it showed that I was still 50' away when we walked it off from both trail approaches. So, I did some manual tweaking of the coordinates, and this is the best I could get with the tree cover. Just go to the cool tree, and start looking.
I hope you enjoy this one. A lovely hike in the woods that culminates in a nicely stocked ammo can. Who could ask for anything more (except maybe a cherry-picker)?
