This cache is located near an old gold mine in the Conondale National Park and is a little more than 10 kilometres south-west of Kenilworth.

This cache is located at an old gold mine that was worked in the early 1900's and extends into the rocks for about 60 metres.  It is now home to colonies of Common Bentwing and Eastern Horseshoe Bats.

This cache can be accessed via a nice easy walking track that follows the creek for the most part.  The nearest approach to the cache is from the walking track adjacent campground #18 at Booloumba Creek #3 campground though it is also accessible from both the day use area (Booloumba Creek #2) and from Booloumba Creek #1 camping area.

DIRECTIONS: The Booloumba Creek camping grounds are located about 6 kilometres from the Maleny - Kenilworth Road. Take the Booloumba Creek turnoff which is about 6 kilometres from Kenilworth. (Be sure NOT to take the turnoff to Charlie Moreland camping grounds).

You will go through some creek crossings if you choose the Booloumba Creek approach though they are usually passable by conventional vehicle... if there has been recent good rain in the area then the 4WD may be be required - or a company car at the very least.

Booloumba Creek camping areas 1 and 3 are for tents only and you will need to book online at the epa website ( https://www.epa.qld.gov.au/parks/iaparks/gds/IAGDS020.do?parkId=21) or ring SmartService Qld 13 13 04.

There is a good PDF info file on the area is available at http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/media/parks_and_forests/parks/kenilworth_parks_forests_map.pdf.

Grounds 1 and 3 have campsites close to a running creek. Booloumba Creek camping ground #4 and the Charlie Moreland camping area are both large open grassy areas which are great for large families, groups and campervans.

Check out the information at the above site to make sure you are covered though a couple of notes that may help.

  • Firewood is no longer provided so make sure you bring your own or buy some locally.  There are usually a couple of places on the way with plenty of good wood available.
  • No Rubbish Bins - you must take your rubbish with you !

Cache Replaced!

The cache is now a small plastic container that is hidden behind a couple of rocks in the root structure of the large tree that overhangs the path - about 5 paces back from the steps.

It is located about 7 or 8 metres from the path on the high side.

* please tread carefully as not to leave an obvious path to the tree.
