A Big A Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

TheDeviousMaxPower: I checked the cache and it looks like someone stole the ammo can. Pretty strange that someone would "find" the cache if they didn't know it was there already.....so I wonder who took it.

Oh well some people don't play fair.

If you looked for the cache but couldn't find it and you figured out the puzzle.....email me the combo and I'll gladly have you log your find.

Geocache Description:

The cords above ARE for the actual cache, but to log the cache you
will need to figure out the combo to the lock that is keeping it
closed and secured in place. This is a moderate to tough hike with
about 1000' elevation gain in 1.58 miles. The last 200' is very
steep down to the cache and I was on my hands and feet on the way
out which is why I rated it a 4 terrain.

I saw one snake and many tics while up here. I didn't see any at GZ but there were some on the trial up and near GZ so use some bug repellant and keep your eyes open. Like the other caches up here you need to hike up the Garcia Trail, park on Sierra Madre near the Fire Station and go from there.

If you search for the cache without the combo to the lock you will not be able to log the cache. Find the combo before you hike to the cache.

Now for some Background on the cache location.....This "A" was recently brought back to life after being down for many years. It seems the local High School students would drive up to this location and make a new "A" out of powder chalk before each home football game. I was told this tradition was stopped in the late 1980's after an accident
where one teen died. An unnamed group of volunteers ecided they would bring the "A" back and late last year went back up the hill and made the semi permanent fabric "A" you see today. That group conducts monthly maintenance to the "A" so if you go up there keep and eye out for them.
